A large ceramic group in Vietnam produces 20 million square meters of tiles annually. Iron impurities in glaze cause black spots and color difference, directly affecting tile whiteness and qualification rate. The glaze is high-viscosity slurry with 65% solid content, and iron impurities exist in fine suspended state of 5–50μm. The iron removal efficiency of traditional permanent magnet equipment is only 60–70%. Frequent manual cleaning leads to 4-hour daily shutdown per production line. Iron content fluctuates greatly in rainy seasons, resulting in glaze defect rate as high as 12%.
The enterprise adopted high-gradient slurry electromagnetic separator. The electromagnetic coil generates 1.5T strong magnetic field, matching with stainless steel medium mesh to capture weak magnetic iron impurities in slurry. It realizes automatic circulating operation of excitation adsorption, power-off flushing and impurity discharge. Corrosion-resistant structure with SS316 material and anti-corrosion coating adapts to acidic glaze with service life over 5 years.
Installed in parallel after glaze grinding and before glazing, with single set processing capacity of 15m³/h. After application, glaze iron content is stably below 30ppm, tile whiteness increased by 5–8 degrees. Glaze defect rate dropped to 1.2%, and product yield increased by 10.8%. Manual cleaning is completely canceled, saving labor cost of 120,000 US dollars annually.
